Beach

The newly renovated beach is located on the south side of the lake, just west of the main entrance. Soak up the sun on the beautiful sandy beach or read a book under the shaded oak trees. The Snack Shack concession stand offers food, drinks and snacks for purchase.

Boating

Lake Thunderbird offers 112 acres of water surface where you can enjoy boating, water skiing, canoeing and the use of paddle boats. A copy of the State Watercraft Certificate of Numbers issued by the State of Illinois or the state in which the owner resides, clearly showing the watercraft is member owned are required. All powerboats, deck boats, fishing boats, or sailboats operated on Lake Thunderbird must be less than 19 feet in length. No pontoon type boat operated on Lake Thunderbird may exceed 26 ½ feet in length. No powerboat or deck boat shall be allowed on Lake Thunderbird that is powered with a motor that exceeds 100 horsepower. Pontoon boats are restricted to a maximum of 40 horsepower. Fishing

Lake Thunderbird Conservation Committee encourages the practice of “Catch & Release”. The Conservation Committee & Water Patrol will be patrolling both shore & water, to enforce the Fish Creel Limits. To Download Fishing Creel Limit PDF click the link below.Fish Creel Information

Parks and Nature Center

Parks and nature trails around the lake provide many opportunities for picnicking or a nature walk where you are likely to see deer, wild turkey, many native birds including an occasional bald eagle. Some common areas provide bathroom utilities and pavilions as well as playground equipment for children. Check out our new nature trail located at the west end of the lake! Excellent fishing is available from common area shorelines.

Clubhouse

We offer affordable rental fees for our newly renovated Clubhouse for members and non-members. A perfect place to hold your next family reunion, wedding or other event. Contact the office for availability.

If liquor is to be served, Dram Shop Insurance will be required at the renters cost. All renters will be required to enter a Hold Harmless Agreement with the Association regardless of event.

Camping

Permanent and overnight camping is available at Lake Thunderbird. There is a Shelter, Playground area and shower facilities located at the main campground. The fees are listed below:

Property owner primitive (no electric) per night $ 15.00
Property owner (electric site) per night $ 20.00
Guest primitive (no electric) includes guest pass per night $ 25.00
Guest (electric site) includes guest car pass per night $ 35.00
Property owners camping a minimum of one week with a
maximum of a 2 week stay per night $ 15.00

Volleyball, Tennis and Disk Golf

Our sand Volleyball; Tennis courts Disk Golf and Miniature Golf are located near the Clubhouse. There is no charge for the sports equipment, however the member needs to check it out at the office. We have soccer balls, basket balls, foot balls, volley balls, 4 sets of disc golf equipment, tennis rackets and balls, croquet, and Frisbees!
