Amenities & Events

Did you ever wonder who plans and hosts all the events here at the Lake?  This is the commission!  We are always looking for volunteers to help host, set up, clean up, decorate, serve, etc.  Attendance at every event is not necessary, just pick an event or two you’d like to help with.  Help us keep the fun times going!

Conservation Commission

Define rules for fishing and establish creel limits;  Recommend species and quantity of fish for the annual fish stocking program; Identify and deal with water pollution and invasive species in the lake.

Ladies Friendship Club

Ladies Friendship Club meets  on the second Wednesday of each month at 1:00 p.m.  We have great conversation and good  treats, and sometimes enlightening programs. Our bake sale, our main fundraiser, is coordinated with the Lake Thunderbird garage sales on Memorial Day weekend. Activities include a Christmas luncheon coordinated with a toy drive for Toys for Tots,  a summer luncheon at a local venue and other outings such as local theatre. Our club is open to all Lake Thunderbird residents.

Tree Hugger Commission

A new commission has been formed and approved by the LTA board to create interest in sustaining our forests. The commission is called The Tree Huggers.

The Tree Hugger commission will be working with the conservation commission with the goal of planting 20 deciduous trees in September of 2023.

We will host events each year to promote the wellness of our forests.

Earth Day Commission

Chair is Ann Annen.  The mission of the commission is to add “finishing touches” to beautify the Lake Thunderbird property, especially the clubhouse.  To this end we plant and maintain 25 large flower pots and hanging plants.  We also helped Maintenance plant ground cover on the hill by the new boat docks.  This will be quite lovely when it fills in.

We’ve re-instituted Spring Clean-up for the month of April in which all members can participate by signing up at the clubhouse office.  We also clean up St. Francis Cemetery on Lake Thunderbird property so that it will be presentable for the Memorial Day services held there.  In the fall mums, pumpkins, scarecrows, and bales of hay are placed in front of the clubhouse.  We’ve purchased decorations and spinners for both entrances to Lake Thunderbird, as well as the entrance to the clubhouse.

DMP (Deer Management Program)

The DMP was created to define rules and establish harvest limits, with the goal of maintaining a healthy and balanced deer and turkey population here at Lake Thunderbird. This is done with input from member/owners, IDNR, and surrounding property owners.  Strict adherence to all the State of Illinois and safe hunting practices is required by all members who qualify for the program.  The Committee chair and the Lake Manager select the deer stand locations.

Architectural Control Commission

The purpose of the Architectural Control Commission is to assure the membership of Lake Thunderbird that all structures constructed are safe and have followed the guidelines of the International Building Codes as well as the National Electrical Codes. We are committed to working with each and every member in protecting their investment as well as their property values. We insure the rules and regulations set forth in the Lake Thunderbird Covenants are followed, we also help protect the Lake from land erosion as well as the run offs and water ways that flow into the Lake, we try to work with the membership as to what their needs are and at the same time preserve the quality and beauty of living at Lake Thunderbird.

Newsletter Commission

The Chair Tree Commission helps put together our monthly news letter.  We meet twice a month to proof read and edit the articles that go into the Chair Tree.  We also help find advertisers and come up with new ideas for articles.  If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, please join!

Water Safety Commission

The primary goal of the Water Safety Commission is to promote safe and responsible boating and swimming here at Lake Thunderbird. We will endeavor to train and educate our members as to the Watercraft Rules and Regulations and we will enforce these rules.

Campground Commission

The Camp Ground Commission collects money from temporary campers, such as trailers and tent camping. We supply Ice for the campground and home owners. Our purpose is to make the campground a great place for all full time campers and the temporary campers.

Men's Club

Mission Statement To develop friendships and comradery among the men here at the lake as we socialize through our monthly breakfasts, occasional outings and get together’s.

Security Commission

The Lake Thunderbird Security Commission is committed to serving the
property owners and the Lake Thunderbird Association (LTA), and enforcing
the Lake Thunderbird Rules.  We are here to assist the people of Lake
Thunderbird.  During our regular patrols, we correct situations, or notify
the proper person or agency when storm/weather damage, vandalism, open doors, downed trees, damaged roads etc. are observed.
